Cheap Custom Imprinted Pens Aren’t Always The Best Choice
Any type of promotional item or any other item that has your name on it gives a direct impression of your business. Do you want your business name linked to pen that quits writing after a month? or starts to skip? Or how about the worst possible thing that can happen? A pen you give a customer explodes or leaks in their pocket or purse and ruins it.
Don’t try to find the cheapest imprinted pen that you can. I’m sure you can find some out there as cheap as maybe ten cents each. Why bother with giving a potential customer you are trying to convince to do business with you a pen you know is almost worthless. You are better off just giving them the dime that the pen cost. Another way to view it is: Would you do business with a company that gives you something that is worth a dime, and doesn’t even work? Be proud of your business name and don’t put it on a piece of junk.
There is a place for cheap imprinted pens. You usually see them in political campaigns because all they want to do is give out things with their name on it. They are just trying to build name recognition for about a month, they don’t care how long the pen lasts. Don’t get your business name compared to your local politicians.

For those that aren’t familiar with these items they are credit card sized wallet calendars. They have a sliding insert that you use to line up the current weekend and the it will show all the football games scheduled for that weekend.

Sports bars and construction companies are always our biggest buyers, but we also get orders from restaurants, civic groups and basically everybody. The biggest hassle in ordering advertising specialties is getting the artwork “camera ready”. With today’s digital lifestyle everything is handled by email these days. Everyone thinks they can just email an attachment with a jpeg, gif or scan of their logo and it will be fine. I really wish it was, it would make my life so much easier. However, almost every factory now requires artwork to be “vector” drawings with fonts changed to curves and outlined, and other things that normal people don’t have the capability to do. Most factories now only accept artwork created in Corel Draw or the more popular Adobe Illustrator.
The price tag for these 2 programs is pretty high, and the learning curve is even higher. They are also upgraded every year or so which requires having to learn all the new features. They are basically programs for artists and graphic designers, and most of my customers (including me) aren’t.
